Description

These Mixed Berry Phyllo Turnovers are the perfect, versatile delight, ready to shine as the star of your next brunch, snack or dessert spread. They feature a sweet and tangy berry blend encased in crisp phyllo dough. Finished with a light citrus glaze, they offer a satisfying crunch and a bright burst of berry flavor in every flaky bite.

Ingredients
  • 1 package Athens® Phyllo Dough (9″ x 14″), thawed
  • 2 tablespoons cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ cups mixed berries of choice (such as strawberries, blackberries, blueberries or raspberries)
  • 6 ounces (1 ½) sticks butter, melted
For Glaze:
  • 3 tablespoons orange juice
  • ½ cup confectioner’s sugar

Directions

Thaw one roll of phyllo, following thawing instructions on the package. Preheat oven to 375°F. Unroll and cover phyllo sheets with plastic wrap, then a slightly damp towel to prevent drying out.

In a medium bowl, blend the softened cream cheese and granulated sugar. Gently fold in the mixed berries, mashing them slightly with a fork.

Place one sheet of phyllo on a work surface and lightly brush with melted butter. Layer and repeat with 3 more sheets to create a stack of four.

Using a pizza cutter, cut the stacked phyllo sheets lengthwise into 2 strips.

Place a heaping tablespoon of the mixed berry filling at one end of each phyllo strip, leaving a ½-inch edge. Fold one corner of the phyllo diagonally over the filling to form a triangle. Continue folding the triangle back and forth along the strip, like folding a flag, until you reach the end.

Repeat the process with the remaining phyllo and filling.

Place the turnovers seam-side down on a lightly greased baking sheet. Brush the tops with melted butter.

Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until golden brown. Allow to cool slightly.

For the glaze, whisk together the orange juice and confectioner’s sugar in a small bowl until smooth. Drizzle over the warm turnovers before serving.
