Make it Fabulous with Phyllo Recipe Contest Entry
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/4 cup onions, chopped
- 1/4 cup relish
- 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 roll Athens Phyllo Dough (9″x14″), thawed
- cooking spray
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
Thaw one roll of phyllo, following instructions on package. Preheat oven to 350ºF
In a medium skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef for approximately 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, breaking up the beef into crumbles as it cooks.
Drain the meat and transfer to a large bowl. Mix into the beef, onions, relish, cheddar cheese, mustard and mayonnaise, mixing well. Add salt and pepper to taste.
Unroll and cover phyllo with plastic wrap, then a damp towel to prevent drying out. Place one sheet of phyllo on work surface, spray lightly with cooking spray. Layer and repeat process making a stack of 5 phyllo sheets. Repeat process making three more stacks of 5 sheets.
Position each stack of phyllo with short sides near you. Divide filling into four portions and lay one portion on each phyllo stack, making a horizontal line about 3″ from short side of phyllo. Fold phyllo up over filling, then roll to the end. Brush each roll with butter and place seam side down on ungreased baking sheet. Using a sharp knife, score each roll 3 times. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven to wire rack to cool slightly before serving.
