Description
This deliciously decadent dessert recipe features sweet fragrant spiced pecans rolled in crispy phyllo and infused with honeyed syrup. Use your air fryer or conventional oven.
Ingredients
1 roll Athens® Phyllo Dough (9″x14″), thawed
2 cups pecans, coarsely ground
3/4 cup sugar, divided
1 teaspoon cardamom
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
1/2 cup water
1/3 cup honey
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 teaspoon lemon juice
Directions
Thaw one roll of phyllo, following instructions on package.
In a small bowl, mix together pecans, 1/4 cup sugar, cardamom, cinnamon and cloves.
Unroll and cover phyllo sheets with plastic wrap, then a slightly damp towel to prevent drying out. Place one sheet of phyllo on work surface. Lightly brush with butter. Layer with 2 more sheets, brushing each with butter. Sprinkle 1/4 – 1/3 cup nut mixture to evenly cover phyllo. Starting from short end, fold the bottom 3″ up. Begin rolling short side from fold line up to the end. Roll should not be loose, but not overly tight either. Cut roll in half, brush with butter. Repeat process with remaining phyllo.
Place rolls seam side down in air fryer pan, in batches of six. Cook in preheated 350ºF air fryer 5-6 minutes or until golden.
Remove from fryer and allow to cool. Once cool, place in a dish or pan with sides. Make syrup by combining water, 1/2 cup sugar, honey vanilla and lemon juice in a small sauce pan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 6-8 minutes or until reduced to approximately 1 cup. Pour 3/4 cup hot syrup slowly over the cooled rolls. Allow to rest for at least 1 hour to absorb syrup. Serve remining syrup with rolls as an option for those who enjoy extra syrup.
